Tashkent, Uzbekistan, February 17, 2020: An International Fencing Academy will open in Tashkent, Uzbekistan with the support of the International Fencing Federation (FIE).
Members of the executive committee of the FIE – Aze Erika, Novak Perovich and Vitaliy Logvin – met Rustam Shaabdurakhmanov, the President of the Uzbekistan National Olympic Committee, in Tashkent, where it was decided that an International Fencing Academy would start operating soon in the Uzbek capital.
“We need to develop the sports sector with neighbouring countries. In this regard we have created the Central Asian Fencing Confederation. Currently, Iran and Mongolia want to join our organisation. I believe that this fencing academy, created with your support in Uzbekistan, will contribute to the popularisation of fencing,” Shaabdurakhmanov told the FIE representatives.
The FIE representatives toured the site where the academy will be built and shared their views.
According to the Uzbekistan NOC, the International Fencing Academy will not only train athletes but also develop coaches and referees.
